Last Tuesday, the Lyme-Old Lyme cast of The Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller about the Salem Witch Trials, traveled to Salem, Massachusetts to learn more about and to embrace the significance of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Although The Crucible is fiction, most of the people, relationships, and events mentioned are true, and learning the entire story of the Trials helped the cast develop their characters and the story better. The cast’s first stop, once in Salem, was the Salem Witch Museum. Here, they were given a tour through the museum’s exhibit, which explained the evolution of witches and a presentation about the events leading up to the trials. Later on, the cast took a walking tour with a guide who lead them to specific places in Salem and explained the history behind each place and its significance in the Trials. Besides learning about the Salem Witch Trials, the cast learned about modern day witches that believe in Wicca. The cast’s tour guide was actually a modern day witch and explained the Wicca belief system. Each cast member became an expert on the Salem Witch Trials and gained the knowledge to develop their characters and ultimately act better! The play is Friday, November 18th and Saturday, November 19th! Get your tickets now!
