Mozzicato’s Bakery

Mozzicatos+Bakery

Recently, I took a trip up to Wallingford in hopes of finding a better restaurant to eat at up there than the ones down where I live. However, I decided to eat at my old standby, Avanti’s in Meriden, but this is not what my article is about. I am writing today to talk about the splendidness that is Mozzicato’s Bakery. I have heard of this place before because my Italian father likes to grab a cappuccino and sfogliatella there once in a while. However, I underestimated its quality. As I was still running on a partially-empty stomach, I decided today was the day to stop by and try it for myself. As soon as I stepped in, I could smell the strong scent of almond paste, an Italian baker’s staple. The numerous cases had endless options: cakes, cookies, cupcakes, tiramisus, different gelato flavors, pannettones, and more. Upon seeing one of the bakers fill a cannoli shell upon order, I knew I had to try one. I ordered a classic cannoli with ricotta filling, dipped in chocolate chips and dusted in powdered sugar. I also ordered a decaf coffee, because it was too late in the afternoon for me to get a cappuccino. My dining companion ordered a decaf coffee and a cannoli as well, minus the chocolate chips. We sat in the corner and looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the passersby while we enjoyed our freshly-made cannolis. Overall, I loved the ambiance and food at this little bakery in the heart of Wallingford. My Yum Sum rating is 5/5. Definitely stop here if you would like to try some genuine Italian pastries.
