Going into January 20th’s Winter Ball, I did not know really what to expect. This was going to be my first and last high school Ball, since I didn’t go last year. Despite this experience being singular for me, I’m glad that I had the fun time I did, because it was fun to the nth degree. Let me recap the night for you.

The venue was The Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station in Haddam. I had never been to the place before, and my first impressions were good. When I entered, there was a beautiful set of stairs that led up to a balcony overlooking the dining and dancing area. To the far left and right of the lobby, there were comfy chairs and tables with appetizers. Among the busy crowd of guests chattering, there were waiters and waitresses offering little things to eat. In a nook of the stairwell, there was a drinks bar offering shirley temples, Arnold Palmer half and half lemonade, and I forget what else. Within 15 – 20 minutes, we were allowed to go to the main room and eat. The food was great, but my only complaint was that we did not get enough time to finish before the loud music and dancing started. The music itself, rap and trap music, was great if you liked that kind of music. If you didn’t like these genres, however, you probably did not have a good time. I personally enjoyed the two OutKast songs played in a row: “Ms. Jackson” and “Hey Ya.” A couple hours into the dancing, I grew tired and often had to take water breaks. For me, Ball was a little too long, but I still had a great time. I even got to break out a couple of worm dance moves that impressed my friends. Out of 10, I would give this experience a 9.
