After three long years, the wait for new music from A$AP Rocky is over. Rocky has now dropped two singles, a music video and a live medley performance in anticipation for his new album. The album is suspected to be called Testing, since A$AP has been posting lots of information with this title and has been placing it in the music videos. A$AP began teasing the new album for months, but finally dropped a new single, “Bad Company (Feat. Blocboy JB)”. Some did not like the new song because of its trap oriented sound. It is drastically different from other songs that A$AP has released, and sounds more like the songs on the A$AP Mob albums. However, his second single showed a return to A$AP’s past. The song is called “A$AP Forever (Feat. Moby)”. The song has a more laid back vibe, and highlights the work done on A$AP’s previous album, AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP. The beat changes after A$AP Rocky delivers a phenomenal verse focusing on his past. The beat becomes slower and more ambient, and uses samples and vocal assistance from electronic musician, Moby. The music video for “A$AP Forever” is awesome, using cutting edge cinematography techniques. The music video truly highlights Rocky’s skills both as a rapper and as a visionary visual artist. On the same night as the single’s release, A$AP went on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and performed a medley of “A$AP Forever” and “Distorted Records”. Again, he showed his creativity in other artistic fields. He blends the songs seamlessly, and incorporates more themes of the Testing motif; including the yellow and black circles and two men in gas masks looking in on A$AP while he performs. Hopefully more will come from the Harlem-raised rapper soon, but until then these new visual pieces and singles will have to suffice.
