11 Acts of Kindness

Starting Wednesday, December 5th, Spectrum will be holding an event with the main goal of honoring the eleven victims of the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooting that took place on October 7th. During the remainder of December, Spectrum is encouraging people to be mindful and kind to others. By having eleven acts of kindness, Spectrum is remembering the eleven victims of the shooting while providing random acts of kindness that students can practice inside and outside of the school community. The eleven acts are:

  • Talk to someone new
  • Hold the door for someone
  • Give someone a compliment
  • Do something helpful without being asked
  • Pick up trash/recycle during lunch
  • Do something nice for one of your classes
  • Thank your teachers
  • Sit with someone new (make a new friend!)
  • Tell someone how much they mean to you
  • Thank the cafeteria workers, the janitors, etc.
  • Show respect for a fellow classmate

One of the members of Spectrum, senior Jacob Olsen, is running the event. When asked about the event, he said, “I really wanted to bring an event like this to the high school after I heard about the community version of Eleven Acts Of Kindness from Jeannie Goldberg and Mary Seidner.” The group has been working hard to put this event together and get the word out for about a month, and Jacob is “really proud of how quickly Spectrum rallied around this idea and how we were able to create this event in such a timely manner!” So, in light of the holiday of spirit, Spectrum encourages you to be kind to others and spread the love!
