Results: Shoreline Art Awards 2016

In addition to January’s Scholastic Art Awards, Lyme-Old Lyme had a strong showing in this year’s Future Choices Art Show, sponsored by the Shoreline Arts Alliance. Junior Ion Gordon received first place in the drawing category, followed by senior Samantha Lee, marking the third consecutive year Old Lyme has been presented with these honors. Additionally, senior Meredith Kegley was awarded third place in the drawing category, with Natalie Rugg and Caroline Cox receiving Honorable Mentions. In the painting category, first place was awarded to senior Silja Forstein, and second place to sophomore Claudia Mergy. Sophomore Maggy Biega was awarded an Honorable Mention in ceramics, with senior Alexis Kolar receiving an Honorable Mention in pastels. Sophia Romeo, Micheline Czlapinski, Keelin Hurtt and James Kolb also had pieces juried into the show.

Pieces were eligible to be submitted from any student within the 24-town Shoreline region, with a maximum of three pieces per student. Additionally, cash prizes were awarded to First, Second, and Third Place winners. Various other prizes and scholarships will be announced following the opening reception this Sunday, February 28, at 3:00, at the Sill House Gallery, Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. The show will run Monday through Friday from 10am till 4:00pm until March 8th. The Region 18 Youth Art Show will also be held at the same venue starting March 17th, displaying the Future Choice award winners, as well as various other pieces selected by the Region 18 Art Department staff.
