A Feature on the REACH Youth Coalition!
What does REACH stand for?
Responsible, Educated, Adolescents Can Help is something called a youth ‘coalition’, which is when a group of people meet up and work towards a common goal. REACH’s goal is to advocate for substance-free lifestyles among their peers.
When and where do they meet?
We meet in the conference room in the office every other Thursday during both first lunch and second lunch. Also, we get special lunches, like pizza, quesadillas, or subs!
How do I join?
Anyone can join, any time! You can text ‘reachlolhs’ to 81010 to join Remind notifications, or send an inquiry to [email protected]
What do we do?
We promote healthy lifestyles for adolescents by advocating for substance free lifestyles through a variety of activities, programs, and events. We also have discussions on other habits, like safe driving and mental health awareness. We make videos, infographics, Instagram stories and posts, and host various activities during field day and on health observations to bring more awareness among our peers.
Why should I join?
You can gain extra knowledge about important topics! You can learn refusal skills, be an advocate for mental health and substance use prevention, participate in activities and programs, volunteer, build leadership skills, and so much more! Also, it looks great on a resume!
Who is the advisor?
Antoinette is something called a ‘prevention coordinator’ for Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau, and her job surrounds connections with youth, parents, schools, and other members within the community to promote substance-free living and mental health, healthy relationships with those around us, and community connectedness.
Our youth peer advocates, Zoe and Annabelle, have led so many activities and advocated to younger peers within the middle school and the elementary school. Youth Advocates can get compensated for their dedication towards living and advocating for a substance-free lifestyle! It’s important for youth to connect with their peers and offer their experience to support mental health and what it means to live substance-free and why it’s worthwhile in the long run.
