Video Review: Inception
April 30, 2015
After the success of his previous film The Dark Knight in 2008, Christopher Nolan went on to direct another massive success with Inception. The films plot is one of the most intelligent in recent years and requires the viewer to pay great attention to what happens at all times. The film follows Dom Cobb who is able to enter peoples dreams and steal ideas from them when he is tasked with inception, planting an idea in someone’s head. The film features multiple levels of dreams and immensely high stakes. The cast bolsters a large number of stars with Leonardo DiCaprio (A bunch of good movies that he didn’t win an oscar for) in the lead role with the supporting cast comprised of Ellen Page (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Juno), Joseph Gordon Levitt (500 Days of Summer, Looper), Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose, The Dark Knight Rises), Ken Watanabe (Godzilla), Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins), and Michael Caine (Interstellar, Kingsman: The Secret Service). Should the amazing supporting cast and intelligent plot not be enough, the movie’s dream plot allows for many intricate and creative action sequences that manage to incorporate the intelligence into the film. Every cast member gives a great performance with everyone having great chemistry that creates believable relationships between the characters. Christopher Nolan, the director, pays great attention to detail regarding the plot and allows the viewers to be as knowledgable of the plot as the director himself. While some the film may seem hard to follow, Inception is still fun to experience. Nearly everything in Inception hits its mark, from the acting to Hans Zimmer’s musical score, which is considered one of his best works. The mind-bending plot will have the viewer in awe due to the complexity of the story and the visual spectacles such as the set pieces and sequences. The film, however, is light on character development. Inception watchers benefit from multiple viewings of the film as new plot points become apparent. Inception is a film that appeals to those who want intelligence, action, well-crafted dialogue, and a star-studded cast that gives a worthy performance.
