Cuba 2017

The LOLHS Spanish department has some exciting news…they are organizing a trip to Cuba! The trip will take place during April of 2017 and will be an exciting new opportunity for students studying Spanish at the high school, as LOLHS will be one of the first schools from Connecticut to undergo such an adventure. The itinerary includes exploring the city of Havana Vieja, or Old Havana, the compelling and exquisite older section of the country’s capital. Known for its unusual art, tourists can visit one of Cuba’s many sculpture museums, such as Museo de Bellas Artes, or walk the narrow but beautiful streets from dawn until dusk.

Next on the itinerary is Viñales, a smaller and quieter city located in a downtown area with simple one-story residences. It may not be as vibrant and exciting as Havana, however, it does make up for its lack of vibrancy with its hand-painted murals. A great number of buildings feature astonishing landscapes and scenes for passers-by to take in. Walking through the city can bring a sense of calm to the visitor.

Students will also visit local community projects, meet organic farmers, and gain a better understanding of this isolated nation’s daily life. LOLHS will be organizing this trip of a lifetime with Walking Tree Travel, an educational travel agency who organized the school’s hit trip to Costa Rica in 2014. More information will soon arrive about this truly once-in-a-lifetime trip, however if you have any questions you can email LOLHS’s Spanish teachers, Jeanne Manfredi ([email protected]), or John McGannon ([email protected]). Also, the link to Walking Tree’s Lyme-Old Lyme’s site will be listed here. As more details arrive and the dates get closer, more information will be available via this site.
