The Lyme-Old-Lyme High School JV volleyball team went out with a bang, finishing the last game of the season with a win against Creed on Wednesday, October 25. The JV team swept in 2 sets with scores of 25-6 and 25-17. Freshman Emma Boardman and sophomore Caroline King had a kill a piece while sophomore Leah Fouquette had 6 aces and 3 digs, sophomore Katelyn Wells had a dig, 2 aces and 2 kills, and freshman Juliette Atkinson had 4 aces.

The JV team has worked tirelessly this season, and every player should be proud of their achievements. Many girls come to the high school with very minimal knowledge of the game, but by the end of the season, they are playing like pros. From developing skills of hitting and passing to understanding the complicated serving rotation, learning the game of volleyball is no simple feat. The players are grateful to Coach Todd, more affectionately known by the team as Zeta, for helping the players to understand the game. As the JV coach, Coach Todd provides the necessary foundation for the girls who are just learning the game. She explains rules and demonstrates skills in a way that makes learning a whole new sport just a little less overwhelming, and the team thanks her for sharing her love and knowledge of the game with both the JV and varsity players.

Led by captains Olivia Stack and Olivia Tetreault, the JV volleyball team established a close-knit sisterhood of supportive friends and teammates. Between each play, regardless of whether the point was won or lost, the girls would run to the center of the court and pat each other on the back or exchange high fives. This simple gesture of support and unity kept the team’s spirits and energy high. Additionally, many girls were able to flawlessly step up into leadership positions as a few JV players were called upon to play for varsity. The combination of strong sophomore leaders and incredible freshman allowed JV to have a fantastic season full of fun memories, and there is no doubt that many girls have begun to experience the feeling of truly falling in love with a sport. OLVB is already looking forward to next season and meeting the next group of freshmen that will contribute to the success of next year’s JV team.
