Fall Sport Come to an Impressive Conclusion: End of Season Recap!
Fall sports have come to a close, with the exception of the football team, who play in the Class SS State Championship this Saturday, 12/10. It’s time to recap each team’s season:
Boys’ soccer had a final record of 9 wins – 5 draws – 7 losses. They made it to the quarter finals of the Class S state tournament and hosted their final game at the home turf, which was against Notre-Dame, Fairfield. The team had multiple Shoreline Conference players: Jonah Lathrop, Liam Celic, and Anders Silberberg making 2nd team, and Aidan Kerrigan getting Honorable Mention. Overall, an impressive season!
Girls’ soccer had a final record of 8 wins – 3 draws – 8 losses. After losing their starting goalkeeper, Olivia Kelly, due to injury early in the season, the team rallied to win games and qualify for both the Shoreline and Class S tournament. They made it to the 2nd round of states, losing to East Catholic, who would go on to win the tournament. Alexis Fenton and Lyla Powers received 1st Team Shoreline and All State, Maddie McCulloch was 2nd team Shoreline, and Luisa Raby was Honorable Mention for the Shoreline Conference.
The boys’ cross country team was competitive in both the Shoreline and Class S State Conference. At the Shoreline meet, the team finished at 4th place. Harry Whitten finished first for the team at 8th place. George Williams, Eric Dagher, and Dylan Hovey completed the course in the top 20. At states, they came in 4th place again, with Harry Whitten and George Williams finishing in the top 20.
The girls’ cross country team had a very successful season this year! Along with competing and winning multiple meets throughout the season, the team got 2nd place at both the Shoreline and Class S State meet. Chase Gilbert got 1st place at both the Shoreline and State meet. Gesami Vazquez, Grace Ferman, Alexis Antonellis, and Madeleine Morgado all finished in top 20 places at the Shoreline meet. Chase Gilbert also ran in the New England meet, finishing 13th and being the first freshman to complete the course. Congratulations!
Field hockey finished the season with a final record of 9 wins – 2 draws – 8 losses. The team is still fairly new; this was only the 2nd year of having a Westbrook-Old Lyme co-op. The team made it to the semifinals of the Shoreline tournament, but unfortunately did not advance past the first round of the State tournament.
The swimming team, a co-op with Valley and Old Saybrook, finished in 17th place at the Class S swim meet.
The volleyball team had a final record of 5 wins – 15 losses. Notably, the girls hosted a Dig Orange fundraiser to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. Their efforts were very successful!
The football team’s season is almost at an end, but with an impressive record of 11 wins – 1 loss, the team advances to the Class SS championship this Saturday (12/10) where they will face off against Barlow. From Old Lyme, Jake Rand, Joe Montazella, and Max Novak were All Pequot Conference players. Good luck this Saturday!
